At long last, the Kick Master LP I’ve been doing is complete. The final video in the series can be found here, and those who would like to relive the LP as a whole can find the appropriate links in the subpage for this LP, found here

So what’s next for me now then. Well, as usual, I have to put real-life issues first I’m afraid. I graduate from University on the 2nd of July, and due to not being able to stay overnight in a hotel beforehand, I’ll most likely be out of it til at least the weekend. That doesn’t mean I won’t be active though, just that I won’t be starting a new LP for a week or two. I have a couple of possible games picked out for my next LP, but the problem is that I can’t decide between them. I’ll be making a test video of each game and see what the other Non-Losers think before reaching my decision. Whichever game is picked, I’ll try and update it more regularly than I did with Kick Master.

As for non-LP projects, I’m currently searching for another film to review, even though Blues Brothers 2000 was met by a lukewarm response, and if another subject I feel the need to rant about comes along, you can bet there’ll be a shiny new blog post of me venting my spleen about it.

Thanks to all those who watched and enjoyed the Kick Master LP, and all being well I’ll have some more videos coming out for you people in the near future…

A Quick Thought: Child Geniuses June 21, 2009

As the title suggest, my quick thought for today is Child Geniuses.

I was watching the news this afternoon when a section came on about child geniuses. This piqued my interest substantially seeing as I wanted to see and find out about how these children became the geniuses of today. As I watched a slight feeling of disgust came over me as I realised the parents were the ones pushing their children from such a young age to excel at a high level. To point out the true disgust caused, A kid at the age of 4 was playing tennis like a pro. Why was this? It was because her father had pushed her at a young age to play tennis. One of the first things she saw when she was born was a tennis ball. As soon as she could walk she was put on the tennis court and trained. This brought forward the though, is it wrong to treat kids this way? Should we force them to become better and greater than ourselves or should we allow them to just be kids? Is this truly healthy for them, and will it cause issues further down the line for these kids? Tell me your thoughts in the comments below.

Where I’ve been as of late June 8, 2009

A few of you may have noticed that I’ve been slightly absent as of late. This is partly because I’ve been doing real life stuff, like work (currently working for a computer store fixing computers) and socialising with people, as well as my controller currently being outside of my grasp (expect a new video when I get it back). This has pretty much kept me tied up for the last month or so, I’ve had hardly enough time to think let alone scratch myself, seriously, this itch is ridiculous! All joking aside, I plan to have a new video up asap, hopefully a new CotM video for everyone to enjoy. I’m not going to tell you who the guest is, but I can tell you I’ve helped him out with guest work in the past.

I know I haven’t been the most regular person at updating, only updating when I feel like it, though I do try to keep a schedule. I try to update once a week, though this rarely plans out. I do have some plans for future projects. A big collab effort from the CFNL on an LP I’m planning to do, a review page on youtube and maybe even a top secret idea which I’ve been brewing around in my stove pot of a head at the moment for quite some time, and I can tell you the stew is looking quite tasty at this current moment. So look out for these in the near future, I will post links on my youtube page for them when they come to be, and keep enjoying the videos if you have been, I know I’ve been enjoying making them.

Enjoy the full image of my avatar on youtube. Click

Edit: I almost forgot to mention, I’ve been using Windows 7 as of late as well, which doesn’t have any programs on it except for games on my other hard drive and Steam. I’ve been clocking up the hours in TF2 while seeing how well Windows 7 runs. I recommend using it if you have a vista machine, it’s ten times better.

Insulting music – why you shouldn’t do it. Seriously. June 6, 2009

Posted by SoapyNome in art, miscellaneous.

So, the other day, a friend asked me, “What kind of music do you like”? And I was all like “OH FUCK YEAH I LIKE ROCK HURRR”. But then I realized something-I listen to things other than rock. Hell, you should see me when I listen to “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay, I fucking get into that shit. Seriously.

But anyway, this got me thinking. What makes someone like certain music? Take myself-I listen to disturbed one second, then Opeth, then Kamelot, (which are all in the same general genre, though different in their own respects), but I also listen to stuff like Eiffel 65, Weird Al Yankovic, Journey, Coldplay, Michael Jackson, hell, even some Kenny Chesney. Fuck damn it, I listen to about every genre imaginable!

Now, where am I going with this? Well, certain people like certain music, am I right? Of course. Now, I started thinking, and thinking, and I realized what caused one of my ticks: When people insult others’ music.

Every note in a song is thought out. Every lyric is written with meaning. Every measure is worth 10,000,000 words, every drum solo that sounds like random wailing on the drums has actually been thought out and perfected, every cymbal hit, every guitar string hit, every lyric said, every death growl sung-is music. No matter what genre, no matter what sound, it’s music. Hours, days, weeks, months have been put into that song, a tremendous effort to put together something that sounds beautiful to the creator. To insult something that someone has worked so hard on is just flat-out moronic.

So, don’t go fucking insulting music. “HURR COUNTRY SUCKS, ROCK IS BETTER HURR” doesn’t make you sound smart. So, lesson learned? Effort was put into every song you hear. So think fucking twice about insulting it.

Brawl for Non-Losers May 16, 2009

Poit. Organizing a Super Smash Bro.s Brawl Tourney for the non-losers. Non-Losers know where to sign up, normies will have to pass this time around.

  • Round Robin (if no one likes that, typical Ladder/Double Elimination rules then)
  • Low items, no Smash Ball, Dragoon, or Hammer/Golden Hammer (maybe no beam sword for Samm)
  • New Rule: Also, no assist trophies since they can mess with the camera.
  • 3 Lives, No Time Limit

How it works is in each match, one player is considered home (by random chance), and the stage they chose at sign up is used. Players can choose one of two characters they specified at sign-up, based on who they’re fighting, what stage they’re on, or gut feeling. After that, fight, fight, and continue fighting, until one is crowned Gundam of Gundams. Hopefully we’re gonna try to have every match recorded, even if it requires a third person enter and suicide at the start, and have special guest commentators over the fights.

So far, the list of players include Not Dave, Rizu Komesu, Omega Zultan, GTF, Ranchei, Pale Voyager, Uznare, Lord Vega, and Samm.

Mega Mania Xtreme, and some other stuff that might interest you April 17, 2009

Hey there, been a while since I posted here, hey? =)
Well, I’m back and whatnot, so let’s get down to what I wanted to mention.

As of last week, Mega Man Xtreme is officially done. Being a lazy bugger, I’ve only just now gotten to updating the page for it here on BFNL with all the current links. You’ll notice as well that I’ve started on the sequel, Mega Man Xtreme 2. You’ve got time to catch up before I begin that proper, so hop to it.

Also because I am a consumer whore, I’m going to give a quick mention to my vlog channel I have going. I’m in the process of editing footage from my recent little vacation together and uploading it on there. If you like scenery and puppies, then take a look-see.

I’ll have a rant of some sort up here after someone else makes a post about something, because I am not a double-posting whore.

Super Smash Bros Brawl! April 8, 2009

Posted by ssskinner in gaming blogs, miscellaneous.

Recently, some of us have been getting together online to play Brawl a bit. Vega and Pale are pretty serious about their skills and I decided to record some battles they were playing, but then I decided to get together some battles with everyone. I’ve uploaded a few of them on to the Non Loser’s Channel, and I still have a few more, plus I have one on my own that Lyrax and I annotated like crazy people since we’re a little more light hearted about our playing.

Anyway, have some links!

Lyrax and Samm duke it out as Sonics on Sonic’s stage with all items on high. Turn on annotations for this one. INCLUDING HAMMER BATTLE!

Pale and Vega in one of their slower matches play their usual heavies (Fox and Ganondorf). It’s not one of their better matches, since they had no warm up time, but I’m sure I’ll get a better one soon. It’s still heart thumping!

Lyrax as Pikachu, Samm as Sheik, and NotDave as Ike. Samm and NotDave do some brawlin’ while Lyrax destroys Luigi’s Mansion over and over. Also laser juggling. (Also this is corrected cuz Vega was like “you suck, it wasn’t me.”)

Pale as Snake, Vega as Bowser, NotDave as Luigi, and Solomon as Pit. This is one of those battles that cracked me up as Vega, who has no idea how to control Bowser, died forever. Solomon knows Pit so well. It’s hard to compete there!

(And before anyone mentions it, I am aware I just used a song title by the Kinks as a title to a blog post. It’s relevant, I assure you. Sue me)

Hey folks, me again. I’m still working on my mondo huge Classics dissertation, but I’ve got a bit of time on my hands, so I thought I’d ‘reward’ you all with a few thoughts that have entered my puny little mind during the course of this weekend. Quite a few things have gone down this weekend, 2 of them sport-related, and I thought it’d be a nice idea diversion from work to share them with you guys…

I’ll get the sport things out of the way first. As anyone who lives in the UK will no doubt know (not to mention several of you not from the UK), today was the 155th University Boat Race. I won’t go into all the details for those of you unfamiliar with this Great British tradition, but basically 8 really big muscled guys pair up with a much less muscled shouty guy (or woman), get in a boat and try to beat another boat with 8 muscled guys and one shouty guy/gal to the finish line. Sounds trivial I know, but it’s looked at with a lot of pride by the two Universities who take part. Today (as has been the case a lot this century) was Oxford’s day, as they pulled away by several lengths to take the trophy. Also today, Jenson Button won the Australian Grand Prix for Brawn Racing, an achievement made all the more remarkable by the fact Brawn Racing weren’t even slated to be on the grid til about 2 months ago. Of course, being the completely unbiased person that I am, I have absolutely no preference as to who won…

Sorry, where was I again? Oh yes, I totally wasn’t padding out the entry just now to make it far longer than it had to be…

Anyway, my main point to this post is what happened yesterday. Fact is, I went shopping for new clothes for what must have been the first time in at least a year. I am a student, don’t forget, that’s usually considered a valued excuse. However, since I’d received a not insubstantial amount of money for my birthday a week or two ago (my 21st, if you’ve been paying attention) and decided the time was right to go out and treat myself. I ended up buying 2 t-shirts, having gone out to look for a new pair of casual shoes. Go figure.

The point is, however, that this got me thinking. Do I live in the same clothes all the time? Is fashion really that important to me as a person? I certainly don’t go for the latest brands, I just buy whatever I see that I really like in the shops at the time. Can I really be consider a dedicated follower of fashion (I told you the title was relevant, now shut up)? Right now I would have to say no, but this weekend may just have spurred me on to update more of my outdated wardrobe? Or was this just a flash in the pan and will I not go out shopping for clothes again for another 8+ months?

…Knowing me, I’m guessing it’s the latter

He IS Daffy Duck March 29, 2009

Lately there has been some controversy with my LP of “Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow”. People have been saying “fuck you, it’s Donald, not Daffy”. Welp, I’m here to prove them wrong.Which is which?

First off, may I please direct you to this one episode of “Duck Amuck”? Follow the link here:

Please notice that this so called “Daffy Duck” is painted into a Sailors suit at about 3:53. Now think, who else wears a Sailors suit? That’s right: Donald Duck. I think it’s pretty obvious that THE BLACK DUCK IS AN IMPOSTER! Here’s how:

The imposter, black duck that we today call Daffy first appeared in 1937 in “Porkys Duck Hunt”. The other duck who is in the game “Maui Mallard” first appeared in 1934 in “The Wise Little Hen”. Here is obviously what happened:

Donald came first (the white duck). But what we don’t know, is his name was originally “Daffy”. Then came along “Daffy Duck”, (the black duck) in 1937, but HIS name was originally “Donald”. Confusing, right? Well, it will all become clear. Obviously, the black duck was jealous of the white one, and wanted the name of “Daffy”. So, he grabbed a brick, and knocked the white duck out. Then he cast a special TV broadcast on all channels to brainwash everyone into think that his name was “Daffy”, even the developers of the ducks.

So, all along it was a trick from the black duck. The white one was, in fact, Daffy Duck. So, in conclusion, I’m right, he’s motherfucking Daffy, get over it.
